Moving an Apartment in Hunters Hill: Small Lifts and Tricky Access

A peaceful setting, a beautiful apartment and a view that was hard to leave behind. This Hunters Hill move had plenty going for it, although the route between the truck and the apartment needed a bit of thought.

There were stairs to negotiate, a lobby to cross and small lifts to work with. Nothing that proved a problem for our team, but a good reminder that apartment access is worth discussing before moving day.

Small lifts need a closer look

Having a lift doesn’t automatically mean every piece of furniture will fit. The doorway can be narrower than expected, and the space inside may limit how a long or bulky item can be positioned.

For this apartment, the small lifts were part of the access we had to work around. When planning a similar move, send your removalist the lift dimensions, including the door opening, along with measurements of your largest furniture.

Photos help too. A quick video showing the route from the entrance to the apartment can reveal awkward corners that measurements alone might miss.

The whole route matters

This move also involved some stairs and a trip through the lobby. It wasn’t simply a case of parking beside a lift and heading straight upstairs.

When asking for a quote, describe the full route your furniture will take. Mention steps at the entrance, stairs between levels and the distance from the truck to the building. These details help your movers plan the time, team and equipment needed.

Taking care through the lobby

A shared lobby is part of the move, and it deserves the same care as the furniture being carried through it. Corners, door frames and existing furnishings can make the route a little tighter.

Keeping walkways clear and taking time with larger pieces helps protect the building and leaves room for residents to pass. It’s worth asking building management about any access rules or protection requirements before the day.

Tricky access doesn’t have to mean a difficult move

Despite the stairs, lobby and smaller lifts, the access at this Hunters Hill apartment caused no problems for our team. Familiarity with apartment moves helps us recognise what needs attention and work through it calmly.

The setting made this one especially memorable. It was a lovely apartment in a quiet, upmarket neighbourhood, with an impressive view to take in along the way.
